History
How conversation history works in Web Chat — when it persists, when it resets, and how to find past sessions.
Web Chat keeps a history of your conversations so you can scroll back, search, and continue threads.
What’s saved
- Every message you send and alfred_’s replies
- Tool calls alfred_ made on your behalf (for audit)
- Linked items (which email, event, or task each chat was scoped to)
What’s not saved
- Active context state (the “what’s the user looking at right now” snapshot expires after ~10 minutes)
- Internal reasoning steps that don’t appear as messages
Finding past chats
- Cmd+K — search across history by keyword
- Sidebar history list — scroll through recent sessions
- From a thread / event — open the related item to see all chats scoped to it
Resetting context
If a chat is getting confused (you’ve covered too many topics in one session), reset:
- “let me start fresh”
- Click New chat at the top of the panel
This clears active context but doesn’t delete history.
Clearing history
- Per-conversation — open the conversation, Delete
- All history — Settings → Privacy → Clear chat history (requires confirmation)
Privacy
History is stored encrypted, scoped to your account. See Privacy & security for the full data policy.
