SMS

Multi-device

Use SMS while at your desk — and swap between SMS and Web Chat without losing context.

SMS and Web Chat are two surfaces on the same assistant — alfred_ remembers what you were doing in one when you switch to the other.

Texting from your computer

If you’re at your desk, you can still text alfred_ via:

  • iMessage on macOS (if your phone is set up to forward texts)
  • Google Messages for webmessages.google.com
  • Web Chat — same conversation, richer UI

Switching mid-conversation

Suppose you ask via SMS:

Schedule a 1:1 with Marc next Wednesday afternoon

alfred_ replies asking “30 or 60 minutes?”. You can answer:

  • From SMS — “30”
  • From Web Chat — open the chat, alfred_ knows you’re still in the scheduling flow

Both surfaces share active context for ~10 minutes after the last message.

Per-device preferences

You can configure different formats per surface in Settings → SMS and Settings → Web Chat:

  • SMS — short replies, no rich previews, optimized for thumbs
  • Web Chat — full responses, compose previews, file uploads
