Can AI Summarize Teams Conversations and Tell Me What I Need to Do? What Was Said, and What Is Yours to Answer.

Yes. What Copilot does inside Microsoft Teams, what it leaves to you, and how to ask what was said in your Teams chats and who is still waiting on an answer, alongside your Outlook email.

Quick answer

Can AI summarize Teams conversations and tell me what I need to do?

  • Yes. With a Copilot license, Copilot in Teams can summarize a chat or channel when you open it and ask
  • alfred_ connects to Microsoft Teams and reads your 1:1 and group chats: ask what the team said, get caught up on today's chats, or ask who is waiting on an answer from you
  • The second part matters more than the summary: a recap tells you what happened, the waiting list tells you what is yours
  • It answers alongside your Outlook email and calendar, on the web, on iPhone or by text. It does not post as you

A summary you have to ask for, chat by chat, still depends on you knowing which chat to open.

You come out of three hours of meetings to forty unread Teams messages across six chats. Somewhere in there, someone asked you something. Reading all forty to find it is the job you were hoping to skip.

There are two different things to want here, and they are not the same: a summary of what was said, and a list of what is yours to answer.

Summary versus what is yours

Both are useful. The second is the one that stops things slipping.

What Teams offers

If your organization has Microsoft 365 Copilot, Copilot in Teams can summarize a chat or a channel conversation and list the open questions in it. You open the chat, open Copilot and ask. It is good at this.

Two limits. It needs the Copilot license, and it works one conversation at a time: you choose the chat, then ask. It does not come to you with “these three people are waiting.”

Without Copilot, the Activity feed shows mentions and replies, and that is the extent of it.

Asking across every chat

alfred_ is an AI personal assistant for work. Connect Microsoft Teams with your Microsoft work account and it reads your 1:1 and group chats, so a question someone asked you there does not slip.

Asked by text: one thing in Teams is waiting on you, with the message it came from.

It answers with the message, who sent it and when. Then the summary question, when you want it:

Asked in chat: what the team said about the renewal, read from the Teams conversation.

Three things to ask on day one:

  • “Is anyone in Teams waiting on an answer from me?”
  • “Catch me up on my Teams chats from today.”
  • “What did the team say in Teams about the renewal?”

With Outlook in the same answer

Work rarely stays in one place. The client emails, and the team discusses it in a chat. alfred_ reads your Outlook mail and calendar as well, so “where are we with Northwind?” draws on the email thread, the Teams chat and the next meeting together.

What to do with what it finds

  • “Remind me about Priya at 10” sets a reminder.
  • “Add a to-do to send the kickoff deck today” puts it on your list.
  • You reply in Teams yourself. alfred_ does not post as you.

How to set it up

  1. In alfred_, open Integrations and choose Microsoft Teams.
  2. Sign in with your Microsoft work account.
  3. Ask who is waiting on you.

Frequently asked questions

Can AI summarize Teams conversations and tell me what I need to do?

Yes. Copilot in Teams summarizes a chat when you ask inside it. alfred_ reads your Teams 1:1 and group chats and answers across them: what the team said about a topic, what happened in today's chats, and who is still waiting on an answer from you.

Do I need a Copilot license for this?

For Copilot in Teams, yes. alfred_ is separate: connect Microsoft Teams with your Microsoft work account and it reads the chats you are in.

Which Teams conversations does alfred_ read?

Your 1:1 and group chats. It reads the chats you are in.

Can it reply in Teams for me?

No. It does not post as you. A message goes to Teams only when you send it.

Can it turn a Teams message into a task?

Yes. Ask it to add a to-do or set a reminder from what it found, for example "remind me about Priya at 10".

Does it also cover Outlook?

Yes. alfred_ reads your Outlook mail and calendar too, so one question can cover a Teams chat and the email thread on the same subject.
