One more AI assistant you text has arrived, this one valued at $300 million as it came out of stealth. Here is what happened, what Tab says it does, and what it does not say about your email.
What happened
Tab came out of stealth at a $300 million valuation, TechCrunch reported on October 7, 2026. The company declined to share the exact funding; its investors include SV Angel, Valar Ventures and American Spirit. Co-founder Ammar Amdani told TechCrunch the company is growing mostly by word of mouth.
What Tab does
Tab’s site puts it in one line: “Tab is an assistant you text when you need something done.” It starts in Messages, with no app to learn, and TechCrunch reported you can text it on iMessage or WhatsApp. Amdani told TechCrunch that Tab “has its own phone number, computer, and wallet.”
The examples are everyday errands: reservations, travel bookings, groceries and gift shopping. Amdani’s version: “The bills, the bookings, the calls you keep putting off, remembering the people you love.”
On trust, Amdani told TechCrunch that “Nothing that can be undone happens without your ‘yes,’” that “Your card lives in a vault Tab itself never sees,” and that “Your data is never used to train AI.” Its site says that before it spends money you see what it is buying, the total and who gets paid.
Neither TechCrunch nor Tab’s site says Tab connects to email or a calendar. The site says it can use “the accounts you connect,” without naming them.
Who can use it
Tab’s site is labeled private beta. You join a waitlist with your name and mobile number, then reply to one text. It lists no pricing as of October 30, 2026.
If you run client work over email
Tab is built around everyday errands. If the problem is client email slipping, alfred_ is built for that job.
alfred_ is an AI assistant for client-facing teams, and each person on the team gets their own. It reads your email across up to six Gmail, Outlook and IMAP accounts, flags the emails that need your answer, and keeps one list of the replies you owe and the replies you’re waiting on. It sends a morning brief by email or text, and you can ask it for things on the web, on iPhone, or by text. Nothing is sent until you approve it. Plans start at $29.99 a month, and teams are $49.99 a seat on one bill.
