Google now has an agent that works inside Gmail and Calendar for you, and can create teammates with their own email addresses. Here is what Google announced, what it says the agent does with your email and calendar, and when you can get it.

What happened

On October 8, 2026, at its Gemini at Work event, Google Cloud announced the Gemini agent: “your new single, universal agent for work.” In Google’s words, “It plans the work, uses skills and tools, connects to your systems, and brings back something finished,” working inside “the documents, the inbox, and the developer environments you already work in.”

Google says the agent picks a model per job, “orchestrating across our Gemini family of models and Claude models from Anthropic today.”

What the Gemini agent does with email and calendar

Google says the agent “works directly inside Gmail, Drive, Docs, Slides, Sheets, Chat, and Calendar,” and “arrives already knowing your calendar, your team, your projects.” From Google’s announcement:

  • Meetings: ask it to set up a meeting with “the usual team of regional event leads next week,” and it works out who they are, “checks their calendars, and starts an email thread to coordinate a time that works, even with external participants.”
  • Inbox: it surfaces “the message that matters most rather than the one that arrived last, and explaining why.”
  • Delegation: in Gmail and the other Workspace apps you can @mention Gemini, and Workspace offers a one-click handoff when it spots a task it can take, 9to5Google reported.
  • Coworker agents: you describe a role and Gemini creates an agent for it. “The agent receives its own Workspace account, including an email address, calendar, Drive, and presence in your company directory,” with an @agents.company.com address, and “it sees only what you share with it.”

Google says you can reach it on the web, iOS, Android, Windows and Mac, and from Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Slack or the command line.

Who can use it, and what it costs

The agent was in private preview at announcement. 9to5Google reported that it “will see wide availability soon for Workspace customers with select Business and Enterprise plans.” Versions for financial services and legal work are in preview, Google says, with government, healthcare and retail to follow.

Google had not published a price for the Gemini agent as of October 30, 2026. Its announcement mentions spend caps and cost controls, not a price.

If you run client work over email

The Gemini agent is built for companies on Google Workspace, and its coworker agents live in your company’s directory. If the problem is client email slipping, across whatever accounts you use, alfred_ is built for that job.

alfred_ is an AI assistant for client-facing teams, and each person on the team gets their own. It reads your email across up to six Gmail, Outlook and IMAP accounts, flags the emails that need your answer, and keeps one list of the replies you owe and the replies you’re waiting on. It sends a morning brief by email or text, and you can ask it for things on the web, on iPhone, or by text. Nothing is sent until you approve it. Plans start at $29.99 a month, and teams are $49.99 a seat on one bill. The two side by side are in alfred_ vs Google Gemini.
