If your mail and calendar live in iCloud, ChatGPT can now reach them. Here is what happened, what the plugins can do, and the two things to check before you connect them.
What happened
On October 27, 2026, OpenAI added iCloud Mail and Calendar plugins to ChatGPT. Its release notes say iCloud users can now “find emails, catch up on your inbox, check your schedule, and update calendar events,” and that the plugins are available to all ChatGPT plans on the web, desktop app and iOS. Android is not on that list.
What ChatGPT does with iCloud email and calendar
Notebookcheck reported that the Mail plugin can search and read messages, manage drafts and send email, and that the Calendar plugin can create events and change existing ones. Both can look up contacts but can’t edit them. Cult of Mac reported that ChatGPT may ask for approval before accessing information or completing an action, depending on your permission settings, and that there are no standalone Contacts or Reminders plugins.
The plugin covers iCloud addresses only. Notebookcheck reported that Gmail or Outlook accounts added to Apple’s Mail app stay out of reach, because only addresses ending in @icloud.com, @me.com or @mac.com work. Google and Microsoft accounts connect through a separate integration, Cult of Mac noted.
How you connect it, and what to check
Open Settings, then Plugins, and connect Mail and Calendar one at a time. Each needs an Apple app-specific password, not your regular Apple Account password. Calendar uses your primary Apple Account email, which may differ from your iCloud Mail address.
Two things to check, both from Notebookcheck’s reading of OpenAI’s help pages:
- Disconnecting leaves the password active. Notebookcheck quotes OpenAI: “Disconnecting an iCloud connection in ChatGPT does not revoke its password at Apple.” To end access completely, remove the password at account.apple.com too.
- A setting decides whether your mail can be used for training. For Free, Go, Plus and Pro users, Notebookcheck quotes OpenAI saying it “may use information accessed from apps to train our models if your ‘Improve the model for everyone’ setting is on.” Business, Enterprise and Edu accounts are excluded by default. The setting is under Data Controls.
What it costs
The plugins come with every ChatGPT plan. OpenAI’s pricing page lists Free at $0, Go at $8 a month, Plus at $20 a month, and Pro from $100 a month, as of November 3, 2026.
If you run client work over email
ChatGPT’s iCloud plugin covers iCloud Mail only. alfred_ lets you easily connect up to six accounts across Gmail, Outlook, iCloud, Yahoo and any IMAP mailbox, then use all of them inside ChatGPT or Claude. One question searches every account, and each answer says which inbox it came from. In our use it’s also significantly faster, because alfred_ gives ChatGPT guidance on how to search your mail and orchestrates the steps. Open alfred_ in ChatGPT to add it, and this guide shows how to set it up.
alfred_ is an AI assistant for client-facing teams, and each person on the team gets their own. It reads your email across up to six Gmail, Outlook and IMAP accounts, flags the emails that need your answer, and keeps one list of the replies you owe and the replies you’re waiting on. It sends a morning brief by email or text, and you can ask it for things on the web, on iPhone, or by text. Nothing is sent until you approve it. Plans start at $29.99 a month, and teams are $49.99 a seat on one bill.
