Using Zoom with alfred_
Connect your Zoom account and alfred_ can create a real meeting for every event it schedules.
What the integration does
Ask alfred_ to schedule something with a Zoom link, in whatever words you would use with a person: "set up a Zoom with Priya next Wednesday at 2pm central". alfred_ creates a scheduled meeting on your own Zoom account, then puts the join link and passcode into the calendar invitation it sends to everyone attending.
Every meeting gets its own id and its own passcode. Before you connect Zoom, alfred_ can only attach a link you saved by hand, which means every meeting reuses the same room.
Before you start
- An alfred_ account. If you do not have one yet, sign up at get-alfred.ai/signup.
- A Zoom account you can sign in to. A free Basic account is enough; alfred_ does not require a paid Zoom plan.
- A calendar connected in alfred_, Google or Outlook. The Zoom join link is delivered on the calendar invitation, so without a calendar there is nowhere to put it.
- If your Zoom account belongs to an organization, your Zoom admin may need to pre-approve alfred_ in the Zoom App Marketplace before you can connect. Zoom will tell you at the consent screen if that applies to you.
Connecting Zoom
- Open Settings → Calendar in alfred_.
- Find the Zoom section and select Connect Zoom.
- Sign in to Zoom if you are not already, and review what alfred_ is asking for. Zoom will show you the permissions.
- Approve, and you will land back in alfred_. The Zoom section will show Connected as your Zoom account email.
You only do this once. alfred_ keeps the connection alive on its own until you disconnect it.
What alfred_ can and cannot see
alfred_ asks Zoom for two permissions and no others:
- Create a meeting for a user. This is how alfred_ books the meeting when you ask it to schedule one.
- View a user. Read once, when you connect, to get the email address of the Zoom account so alfred_ can show you which account is linked, and so it can tell whose credentials to delete if you later remove the app.
Which means alfred_ does not, and cannot:
- join, start, record or transcribe any meeting
- read recordings, transcripts, participant lists or in-meeting chat
- see or change meetings it did not create
- see meetings scheduled by anyone else
Disconnecting, and removing the app
There are two ways to end the connection, and either is enough.
From alfred_. Go to Settings → Calendar, find the Zoom section, and select Disconnect. alfred_ deletes the stored credentials immediately and stops creating Zoom meetings. Note that this removes alfred_'s access from our side, but the app stays listed in your Zoom account until you remove it there too.
From Zoom. Sign in to the Zoom App Marketplace, open Manage → Added Apps, find alfred_ and select Remove. Zoom then notifies alfred_, and the stored credentials are deleted automatically.
Either way, meetings alfred_ already created stay in your Zoom account and on your calendar. Removing the app stops new ones being made; it does not cancel anything already scheduled.
How your Zoom credentials are stored
The tokens Zoom issues are held in our database, encrypted at rest, in a row that belongs to your account and is readable only by it. They are never written to logs and never sent to any third party. They are deleted when you disconnect, by either route above.
Traffic between alfred_ and Zoom uses TLS 1.2 or above. For the fuller picture, see our privacy policy and security overview.
If something is not working
The meeting was scheduled, but there is no Zoom link on it. Usually the connection has lapsed, which happens when the app is removed on the Zoom side. Open Settings → Calendar; if the Zoom section no longer shows a connected account, connect it again and reschedule.
Approving in Zoom sends you back to alfred_ still disconnected. Either the consent screen was dismissed before approving, or your Zoom account is managed by an organization that requires an admin to approve alfred_ first. Ask your Zoom admin to approve it in the Zoom App Marketplace, then connect again.
The wrong Zoom account is connected. Disconnect in Settings → Calendar, sign in to the Zoom account you want in the same browser, then connect again. alfred_ holds one Zoom account at a time.
The passcode or waiting room is not what you expected. alfred_ creates the meeting with your own Zoom account's default settings, so change those in your Zoom profile rather than in alfred_.
