# Chat on the web

Ask alfred_ the way you'd ask a person who has read all your email and knows your calendar. It answers from your own work and links back to the original messages.

## Where to ask

- **The box at the top of Home**: type and press Enter.
- **The chat panel** on any page: it opens beside what you're working on, and expands to full screen.

When you ask from an open thread, "this" means that thread: "summarize this", "draft a reply to this", "make a task from this".

## What alfred_ answers from

- Email and calendars from every connected account
- Tasks in alfred_ and Google Tasks
- Notes and documents in your workspace
- What alfred_ remembers about the people and work in your life (see [Memory](https://get-alfred.ai/docs/memory))
- Connected apps like Slack, Microsoft Teams, HubSpot, Salesforce, Notion and Google Drive
- The web, when you ask it to look something up or read a link

Answers link back to the messages and events they came from, so you can check.

## What to ask

- What did Dana send about the renewal?
- Summarize this thread
- Who am I waiting on?
- Draft a reply to Dana saying Thursday works
- Find 30 minutes with Mark next week and send an invite
- Every Friday at 4, send me the replies I still owe clients

## When alfred_ acts

Things that only affect you happen right away: looking things up, adding a task, saving a note, putting a meeting with no guests on your own calendar, or archiving, moving or deleting a few emails you name (deleted mail goes to Trash, and "undo" puts it back).

These ask first, with a card that shows exactly what will happen:

- Sending an email or a reply
- Creating or changing a meeting that invites other people
- Cleaning up mail by sender or search, or more than 25 emails at once
- Changing a repeating task

Confirm it, ask for a change ("make it shorter", "move it to 3pm"), or cancel. See [Drafts and approvals](https://get-alfred.ai/docs/email/drafts).

## Chat history

Every conversation is saved. Use the conversation list beside the chat panel, or **Search chats** to find one by what was said. **New chat** starts with a clean slate; alfred_ still knows your email, calendar and what you've asked it to remember.
