# Tasks & reminders

Tasks is your to-do list. Add tasks by asking, accept the ones alfred_ suggests from your email, or bring them in from Google Tasks, and get a text when one is due.

| At a glance | |
| - | - |
| Where | Tasks in the sidebar, plus Google Tasks if you connect a Google account |
| Comes from | Tasks you add, tasks alfred_ suggests from your email that you accept, and Google Tasks |
| Reminders | A text at the reminder time you set on a task |
| Changes that ask first | Changing a repeating task |

## Adding a task

Type it into Tasks, or ask anywhere you talk to alfred_. You don't need a date; alfred_ asks only if it would matter.

- Add a task: send the proposal to Acme by Friday
- Remind me to call Dana tomorrow afternoon
- Put "renew the insurance" on my list for the 15th

## Suggested from your email

When an email asks you for something, alfred_ suggests it as a task. Suggestions show on Tasks until you accept or dismiss them; nothing joins your list without your yes.

| Suggested | Not suggested |
| - | - |
| "Can you send me the signed copy by Friday?" | Vague notes with nothing to do ("we should catch up sometime") |
| "Need your sign-off on the budget" | FYIs with no ask ("just letting you know we shipped") |
| "Please confirm the delivery date" | Newsletters, receipts and automated alerts |

A suggestion carries the date from the email as its due date, and links back to the email it came from.

## How dates are read

Dates are read the way people write them, in your time zone (Settings → Preferences):

- **"Friday"** is the coming Friday. Said on a Friday, it means next Friday.
- **"EOD"** is 5 PM your time. **"EOW"** is the end of Friday.
- **"Tomorrow", "next Monday", "in two weeks"** work as you'd expect.

Change a date in Tasks, or ask: "push the contract task to next Friday", "move all the Acme tasks back a week".

## Working your list

- What's overdue?
- What's due this week?
- Mark the contract task done
- Do I have a task about the Acme proposal?

## Tasks and follow-ups

A **task** is work you need to do; it stays until you check it off. A **follow-up** is a conversation waiting on a reply; it clears itself when the reply goes out or comes in. See [Follow-up tracking](https://get-alfred.ai/docs/email/follow-up-tracking). If a reply turns out to need real work, ask alfred_ to "make this a task" from the thread, and the task links back to the email.

## Reminders

A task can have a **due date** and a separate **reminder time**. "Remind me Friday at 3 to call Dana" sets a reminder time; "add a task to send the proposal by Friday" sets a due date. When the reminder time comes, alfred_ texts you (or sends a notification from the iPhone app). A repeating task reminds you each time it comes round.

Reminders respect your [quiet hours](https://get-alfred.ai/docs/preferences#quiet-hours): one that falls inside them arrives when they end. If a reminder doesn't arrive, check that **Texts from alfred_** is on under Settings → Notifications, that your phone is verified (see [Text messages](https://get-alfred.ai/docs/ways-to-use/text)), and that the task has a reminder time, not just a due date.

## Deleting a task

Mark a task done, or delete it in Tasks in the app. A deleted task can be restored for 30 days. Claude and ChatGPT can mark tasks done but can't delete them.
