# Morning brief

A short read at the start of the day: your meetings, what's due, the replies you owe and the drafts waiting for you. It arrives at 7 AM by text, with an email copy if you want one.

## What's in it

| Section | What it shows |
| - | - |
| Schedule | Your meetings for the day, with times. |
| Tasks | Tasks due today, and anything overdue. |
| Waiting on you | The replies you owe: who it's from, what they need, how long they've waited. Newsletters, receipts and automated mail stay out. |
| Drafts ready | Replies alfred_ wrote for mail that needs an answer, waiting for you to send or change. |
| News and weather | Local headlines and weather, if you set a location under Settings → Preferences. |
| Your own sections | Anything you add in a sentence, like "a line on any client I haven't emailed in two weeks". |

Those are the sections of the **text** brief. Turn any of them off on **Routines → Morning brief**.

![The Morning brief page: an on switch, a description of the text and email versions, switches for Schedule, Tasks, Waiting on you, Drafts ready, News and Weather, news topics, and Your own sections.](https://get-alfred.ai/blog-images/docs/routine-morning-brief.jpg)

*Routines → Morning brief on a test account.*

The **email** version is different: the **Morning Inbox Brief**, a short written read of what needs you in your inbox, with the people and threads behind each item. It leaves out the schedule, news and weather.

## When and how it arrives

It's turned on when you set up alfred_, and arrives at 7 AM in your time zone, every day.

- **By text**, always, once your phone is connected.
- **By email too**, if you turn on **Also by email** on Routines → Morning brief. That's the Morning Inbox Brief described above.
- **Time of day**: on the hour, 4 AM at the earliest.
- **Days**: every day, or the days you choose, by asking.

You can also change these by texting alfred_:

- Send my brief at 6 AM
- Only send my brief on weekdays
- Also send my brief by email
- Brief me

"Brief me" sends a fresh one right away. A text brief scheduled inside your [quiet hours](https://get-alfred.ai/docs/preferences#quiet-hours) waits until they end.

## Acting on it

- **From a text brief**, reply to the text: "draft a reply to Dana saying Thursday works", "remind me about the Acme invoice at 3". Any draft or invite is shown to you first; reply "1" or "send" to confirm.
- **From an email brief**, each item links to the thread.
- **In the app**, everything in the brief is also on Home, where each item leaves once it's handled. Earlier briefs are under **Reports** on Home.

For a mid-day or end-of-day read, set up a [routine](https://get-alfred.ai/docs/routines): "every weekday at 5 PM, text me what's still open".
