# Set a work reminder

Tell alfred_ what to remember and when. It goes on your task list with that date, and you get a text when it's due.

## The prompt

- Remind me \[WHEN] to \[DO WHAT].

## The problem

You think of it while driving, or mid-meeting: call the client back Thursday, check the payment in two weeks. By the time you're at a desk it's gone.

## What you need

- Your phone connected, if you want the reminder by text. See [Text messages](https://get-alfred.ai/docs/ways-to-use/text).
- **Texts from alfred_** on under **Settings → Notifications**.
- Your time zone right under **Settings → Preferences**. Dates are read in it.

## What you get back

> **alfred_:** Added "Send Northside the renewal quote", with a reminder Friday, Oct 30 at 10:00 AM. I'll text you then.

## How dates are read

- **"Friday"** is the coming Friday. Said on a Friday, it means next Friday.
- **"EOD"** is 5 PM your time. **"EOW"** is the end of Friday.
- **"Tomorrow", "next Monday", "in two weeks"** work as you'd expect.

## Then

- **At the reminder time**, you get a text, and the task stays on your list until you check it off.
- **Move it:** "push the Northside quote to Monday".
- **Finish it:** "mark the Northside quote done", or check it off in Tasks.

## Limits

- A reminder is a task with a reminder time. It stays on your list until you check it off, rather than disappearing after the text. A due date on its own doesn't text you; say a time, or "remind me".
- Reminders respect [quiet hours](https://get-alfred.ai/docs/preferences#quiet-hours). One due during quiet hours arrives when they end.
- If a reminder doesn't arrive, check that the task has a reminder time, that texts are on under Settings → Notifications, and that your phone is verified.
- To block time for it instead, add it to your calendar: "put 30 minutes on Friday morning for the Northside quote".
