# What is alfred_?

alfred_ is an AI assistant for email, calendar, tasks and follow-ups. It reads the accounts you connect, tells you what needs you, and prepares replies, meetings and reminders for you to approve.

Use it on the web, on your iPhone, by text message, or inside Claude and ChatGPT. It's the same assistant everywhere, working from the same accounts. On a team, every person gets their own alfred_, and their mail stays theirs unless they choose to share it.

## What alfred_ helps with

Each area has a guide with setup steps, what happens on its own, what needs your OK, and what to check when something looks wrong.

- [Email](https://get-alfred.ai/docs/email): Find messages, summarize threads, see what needs you, draft replies and track follow-ups.
- [Calendar](https://get-alfred.ai/docs/calendar): Schedule and move meetings, find open time, and prepare for what's next.
- [Tasks & reminders](https://get-alfred.ai/docs/tasks): Turn email into tasks, set due dates, and get reminded on your phone or the web.
- [Routines](https://get-alfred.ai/docs/routines): Checks that run on a schedule or when an email arrives, like your morning brief.
- [Memory](https://get-alfred.ai/docs/memory): The people, preferences and facts alfred_ keeps for you, and how to change them.
- [Notes & documents](https://get-alfred.ai/docs/notes): Notes and boards in your workspace, and how alfred_ reads and updates them.

## Start with one task

1. **Connect your email**

Sign in with Gmail or Outlook, then ask alfred_ to find a recent thread with a client. See [Connect your tools](https://get-alfred.ai/docs/connect).

2. **Set up texting**

Save your mobile number, then text alfred_ first. That first text confirms the number; no code is sent. See [Text messages](https://get-alfred.ai/docs/ways-to-use/text).

3. **See what you owe**

See the replies you owe, and ask who still owes you one. See [Follow-up tracking](https://get-alfred.ai/docs/email/follow-up-tracking).

## What it won't do without you

alfred_ only sees the accounts you connect, and only with the permissions you grant when you connect them.

- **Send an email or a calendar invite you asked for.** You see it first and approve it, on the web or by text. The exceptions are things you set up yourself, like a rule that forwards mail; see [Drafts and approvals](https://get-alfred.ai/docs/email/drafts).
- **Clean up your mail in bulk.** A sweep by sender or search, or more than 25 emails, shows you a count first. Low-priority mail it files on its own goes to Archive, and anything you ask it to delete goes to Trash, so it can be brought back.
- **Share your mail with a teammate.** Sharing with your team's account coordinators is something you say yes to, and every action is logged. See [Sharing & permissions](https://get-alfred.ai/docs/sharing).

Your data is used only to run your assistant. We don't sell it, share it, or train models on your email. Stuck on something? Start with [Troubleshooting](https://get-alfred.ai/docs/troubleshooting), or [contact support](https://get-alfred.ai/docs/troubleshooting/contact-support).
